CORBA and Object Request Brokers

چکیده

Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) has helped many networks with their ability to communicate to one another. CORBA’s ultimate goal is for application integration [3]. CORBA has been around for over ten years and has saved millions of dollars in software that would have been purchased and created to allow client-server requests to be made. CORBA is a middleware that creates a framework that allows communication of heterogeneous platforms to successfully communicate. There are many different parts that make up the CORBA architecture. A request from a client is passed through a stub and on the ORB core. The core processes the request and sends it to the appropriate server. There are many forms of the ORB, which directly relates to the implementation and to the type of services it is being used for. CORBA is being improved continuously and is allowing for communication between different systems that was once thought to be impossible.

A Fault-Tolerant CORBA Name Server

OMG CORBA applications require a distributed naming service in order to install and to retrieve object references. High availability of the naming service is important since most CORBA applications need to access it at least once during their lifetime. Unfortunately , the OMG standards do not deal with availability issues; the naming services of many of the commercially available CORBA object r...

A New Implementation for Parallel Processing Based on CORBA Standard

In this work a new implementation is presented based on Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) to develop parallel applications. This approach is based on asynchronous messaging, using Asynchronous Messaging Invocation (AMI) models, along with an extension of the Implementation Repository to manage and distribute remote processes. Two interesting characteristics are suported here: fi...

Persistence Brokers in a Distributed Object Environment

Managing database resources for distributed, object-oriented applications can be done efficiently through the use of persistence brokers. CORBA enabled, distributed application objects communicate with the persistence brokers to obtain database services. Such an approach insulates application software from the details of the persistence mechanism and reduces requirements for concurrent database...

Evaluating CORBA portability: the case of an object group service

One of the most attractive aspects of the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) lies in its open standard nature. Code that is based only on constructs described in the CORBA speciication is portable between Object Request Brokers (ORBs), without depending on any single ORB implementation. However, this portability feature is not completely achieved in real-world applications. This ...

Evaluating Architectures for Multi-threaded CORBA Object Request Brokers

CORBA Object Request Brokers (ORBs) deliver client requests to servants and return responses to clients [1]. To accomplish this, ORBs manage transport connections, perform transport endpoint demultiplexing, and provide the multithreading architecture used by applications. The architecture used to multi-thread an ORB has a substantial impact on its performance and predictability [2]. A key chall...
